We looked at different music theories and created a presentation so that we can remember and apply the theories to other music videos.

Audience
For this task we were asked to explain why an audience might listen to music and answer some questions about why, when and how we as audience members listen to music.
I as an audience listen to music daily, I listen to it first thing in the morning when I am getting ready as well as when I leave my house. I listen to it in the car and also when I am studying. I find music helps pass time and also block out external sounds when I want to concentrate. I listen to a variety of music depending on if I am listening alone or with friends and also depending on what I am doing. If I am walking or going running I listen to more fast pace energizing music, in the morning I tend to just press shuffle and listen to a variety however I listen to more calm music when studying. I listen to music both on the radio and my phone, I listen to music I have downloaded and also on you tube.
Music is able to heighten feelings and emotions. Fast pace music make you feel energized and slower songs may make you feel sadness. Some songs may be associated with memories or people which can make an audience feel both sad or happy. Music also allows the audience to feel the emotions of the artist.

USES AND GRATIFICATIONS THEORY
Personal Identification - I use music so that I can pass time or feel motivated. I also listen to relate to feelings in the song.
Information - sometimes you learn something from a song? Oliver Cromwell by Monty Python taught me some history.
Entertainment - Some songs are used for entertainment such as more fast upbeat songs which are used and played socially. some songs are easy to sing along to with friends and are used at social events such as parties.
Social Interaction - some songs remind you of certain times with friends. My friends and I are always singing randomly, Things like concerts bring friends together.
escapism- Music can be used to block out background noise when you need time alone this for me is when I'm concentrating and need to get things done.

Group song Presentation
Each person in the group chose a song and presented it to the class, this enabled us to get ideas and other thoughts and opinions. To conclude we decided none of the songs were right for what we wanted, meaning that we must continue to look for a new song.

Banana phone
For this task we had to film a range of shots and then edit them. This enabled us to explore premiere pro and learn new editing skills in preparation for our music video.
we experimented with a range of effects including Cloning, depth of field, reverse shot, and tracking. with these we combined filming and editing to achieve the following video.

Class Feedback Group presentation
This is the feedback we got after presenting our song ideas to our class.
Hopeless, Halsey
Many people had mixed feeling about the instrumental in the middle of the songs, many people disliked this and thought is might be difficult to keep the music video interesting.
Roman Holiday, Halsey
Our class preferred this song more than Hopeless. our peers preferred the beat and it was thought this music video would have a better narrative.
Disciples, Tame Impala
This was the least favorite song of the three, our peers didn't like this as much.
In conclusion to our feedback as a group we decided to continue to look for a song to use in our music video as we were not happy to use one of the three above.

Star profile Miley cyrus
For this task we had to choose a star and look at how they have changed and how their image as a star has evolved. I chose to look at Miley Cyrus her career has changed a lot since when she was known as Hannah Montana. Miley in recent years has begun to change her star image her target audience changed after her years of Hannah Montana as her twerking days were less than child friendly however between 2016-17 she has again changed her image which her audience can recognise as a respectable creative artist.
Hannah Montana
Miley Cyrus- starting all over
Wrecking ball
Malibu
30 second break down
For this task we had to choose a song and break down the first 30 seconds of it we had to look at what each shot had in it and analyse it.

Evaluation
1) Who did you work with and how did you manage the task between you?
4) What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did you use it?
I worked with Charlotte Ellis and Sam Hooper. Having a group of three meant that tasks could easily be divided between us meaning that none of us had a larger work load. We each had a say in every aspect of the Pre-lim meaning that we were all happy with the final product. We took turns in editing, blog work and filming however primarily we all had a field which we did more work in. Charlotte did a lot of the blog work getting the shots of the music video to help us get timings right she also did a lot of the production diary. Sam gathered props and helped organise location as well as getting some of his friends to help us film. Sam and Charlotte were also the main artists shown on camera. I did a lot of the editing I did research on how to achieve similar effects as the ones in the official music video and tried to get timings of each clip as closely to the original as possible. Having different jobs within the group meant that none of us got to stressed with what had to be done. sharing the work meant the process could be more enjoyable for us all.
2) How did you plan your sequence? What processes did you use?
2) How did you plan your sequence? What processes did you use?
Charlotte screen shot the original music video by Catfish And The Bottelmen so that we could look at timings of the video and also see what shots could be filmed when. our first filming day we primarily filmed just the shots which had a single person in we did this because it was easy to film with the three of us taking turns to be on camera or filming depending on the shot. we did not necessarily film our shots in order we filmed the easier shots first and then on our last filming day enlisted the help from some friends to film the group shots. Filming in the sequence of task/shot difficulty was a process that seemed to work for us. it was easy to edit around the missing clips throughout the week as we just used timing to put clips in the correct place leaving gaps for the un-filmed shots adding them in as and when we filmed them.
3) What theories could you apply to the video you chose?
3) What theories could you apply to the video you chose?
The music video we chose to recreate is very much a performance video there was no real story or concept to the video
4) What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did you use it?
Because of the setting of the music video we chose to film in our drama studio in school, this meant that we could use the lighting to match the color of the original video. We also used Charlotte camera which is a ........... we did not use a tripod due to the position of some of the shots a tripod would not be high enough or low enough instead we just held it by hand. we used the school PC to edit on the software premiere pro which we were familiar with.
5) What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?
5) What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?
The original video we wanted to recreate......... had a difficult location due to the size of the props we would need. it was proven more difficult than we anticipated to get a drum kit to the middle of a forest due to this and the difficulty we would have had if we had to go back and film more shots we decided to change. transport props, setting and time of day were all something we had to take into account the first music video we wanted to do would have had to be filmed late at night which also added another hurdle to our planning. That is why as a group we decided to change the video we were going to do to Kathleen by Catfish And The Bottelmen. We recognized that this video was more about its editing rather than its setting. It was easier to film in school where technology such as stage lights would be available to us to use making it easier to go from light to dark it was also going to be easier to move a drum kit around school rather than to a different location. Filming in school time during lesson and free periods meant that we could easily work our shooting schedule instead of having to work out when each of us were busy out of school times and trying to make time. Filming at school meant that were were all there available to film.
6) How successful was your music video copy? Please identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently? What did others say about your production?
My group successfully recreated our music video, it was a close match to the original. we worked well as a team and worked hard to match similar editing techniques. to improve it we might ensure the lighting when filming is correct and more precise so that editing would be made little easier. Many people who have seen the video have commented on the editing skills, and the close match to the original. A class member also said the 'editing was accurate and very well done'
7) What have you learnt from completing this task? Looking ahead, how will this learning be significant when completing your music video, do you think?
I have learnt a lot about editing from completing this task and I have explored premiere pro more this will be significant to completing my music video as it means I have more confidence and am more familiar with the editing software which will be used in editing my music video. I have learnt that anything that I'm unsure of on premiere pro can be searched and learnt from the internet or YouTube. I have also recognized how much easier the task is when you work as a team and sharing the work load. having a cooperative team makes the task easier and more enjoyable.
8) How does it compare with filming an opening to a film?
Filming a music video in comparison to a film opening enables the production to be more creative and abstract the video does not need to make sense or have a clear narrative. which enables the editing to be more fun and crafty.
10) Looking at the other group's videos which do you think were most successful and why?
I think each group were successful in creating a similar/ close match to the original music video of their chose. Each group used their imagination to closely match their video of choice. I think the group who re created 'we don't talk anymore' was very successful they captured each scene well and match it to the original accurately.
9) What are your strengths and weaknesses as a group member?
I think as a group member my strength was editing, I felt that after looking online to find the right edit I played around with it and learnt to use the effect quickly, although I know there is a lot still left to learn I was happy with how the preliminary task turned out. I think my weakness is that I am still not 100% comfortable in front of the camera.

No rest - Dry the river/ Radiohead Task
For this task we were asked to close our eyes and listen to a song we then had to make a pitch as to what we think the video would look like, we then discussed it as a group. Next watched the music video and compared the actual music video to what we imagined.
Overall the general imagery we though of as a class was outdoors, amongst nature. This was not very far of the original music video.

Performance, Narrative, Concept
Katy perry part of me - Narrative
Calvin Harris ft Rihanna this is what you came for- Performance
In this music video there is a lot of attention on the main artist; Rhianna. The camera focus is always on her. there are a lot of fast editing cuts to match the beat and pace of the music. The setting of the video does not change, a green screen is used to portray a club which matches the music.
Chet Faker talk is cheap - Concept
This music video has no real relation to the lyrics of the song. Although the artist is the main focus of the video their is no performance on his part. the video is created artistically around him.
This music video has an introduction it sets the narrative for the lyrics and music video, it gives the audience a background before the song begins. The music video along with the lyrics is an empowerment for women and shows them as strong and independent. i shows two lives of the same person and how she has overcome hurt and changed her life. The lyrics give emotional strength whilst the video shows emotional strength.
