I worked with Charlotte Ellis and Sam Hooper. Having a group of three meant that tasks could easily be divided between us meaning that none of us had a larger work load. We each had a say in every aspect of the Pre-lim meaning that we were all happy with the final product. We took turns in editing, blog work and filming however primarily we all had a field which we did more work in. Charlotte did a lot of the blog work getting the shots of the music video to help us get timings right she also did a lot of the production diary. Sam gathered props and helped organise location as well as getting some of his friends to help us film. Sam and Charlotte were also the main artists shown on camera. I did a lot of the editing I did research on how to achieve similar effects as the ones in the official music video and tried to get timings of each clip as closely to the original as possible. Having different jobs within the group meant that none of us got to stressed with what had to be done. sharing the work meant the process could be more enjoyable for us all.
2) How did you plan your sequence? What processes did you use?
2) How did you plan your sequence? What processes did you use?
Charlotte screen shot the original music video by Catfish And The Bottelmen so that we could look at timings of the video and also see what shots could be filmed when. our first filming day we primarily filmed just the shots which had a single person in we did this because it was easy to film with the three of us taking turns to be on camera or filming depending on the shot. we did not necessarily film our shots in order we filmed the easier shots first and then on our last filming day enlisted the help from some friends to film the group shots. Filming in the sequence of task/shot difficulty was a process that seemed to work for us. it was easy to edit around the missing clips throughout the week as we just used timing to put clips in the correct place leaving gaps for the un-filmed shots adding them in as and when we filmed them.
3) What theories could you apply to the video you chose?
3) What theories could you apply to the video you chose?
The music video we chose to recreate is very much a performance video there was no real story or concept to the video
4) What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did you use it?
Because of the setting of the music video we chose to film in our drama studio in school, this meant that we could use the lighting to match the color of the original video. We also used Charlotte camera which is a ........... we did not use a tripod due to the position of some of the shots a tripod would not be high enough or low enough instead we just held it by hand. we used the school PC to edit on the software premiere pro which we were familiar with.
5) What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?
5) What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?
The original video we wanted to recreate......... had a difficult location due to the size of the props we would need. it was proven more difficult than we anticipated to get a drum kit to the middle of a forest due to this and the difficulty we would have had if we had to go back and film more shots we decided to change. transport props, setting and time of day were all something we had to take into account the first music video we wanted to do would have had to be filmed late at night which also added another hurdle to our planning. That is why as a group we decided to change the video we were going to do to Kathleen by Catfish And The Bottelmen. We recognized that this video was more about its editing rather than its setting. It was easier to film in school where technology such as stage lights would be available to us to use making it easier to go from light to dark it was also going to be easier to move a drum kit around school rather than to a different location. Filming in school time during lesson and free periods meant that we could easily work our shooting schedule instead of having to work out when each of us were busy out of school times and trying to make time. Filming at school meant that were were all there available to film.
6) How successful was your music video copy? Please identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently? What did others say about your production?
My group successfully recreated our music video, it was a close match to the original. we worked well as a team and worked hard to match similar editing techniques. to improve it we might ensure the lighting when filming is correct and more precise so that editing would be made little easier. Many people who have seen the video have commented on the editing skills, and the close match to the original. A class member also said the 'editing was accurate and very well done'
7) What have you learnt from completing this task? Looking ahead, how will this learning be significant when completing your music video, do you think?
I have learnt a lot about editing from completing this task and I have explored premiere pro more this will be significant to completing my music video as it means I have more confidence and am more familiar with the editing software which will be used in editing my music video. I have learnt that anything that I'm unsure of on premiere pro can be searched and learnt from the internet or YouTube. I have also recognized how much easier the task is when you work as a team and sharing the work load. having a cooperative team makes the task easier and more enjoyable.
8) How does it compare with filming an opening to a film?
Filming a music video in comparison to a film opening enables the production to be more creative and abstract the video does not need to make sense or have a clear narrative. which enables the editing to be more fun and crafty.
10) Looking at the other group's videos which do you think were most successful and why?
I think each group were successful in creating a similar/ close match to the original music video of their chose. Each group used their imagination to closely match their video of choice. I think the group who re created 'we don't talk anymore' was very successful they captured each scene well and match it to the original accurately.
9) What are your strengths and weaknesses as a group member?
I think as a group member my strength was editing, I felt that after looking online to find the right edit I played around with it and learnt to use the effect quickly, although I know there is a lot still left to learn I was happy with how the preliminary task turned out. I think my weakness is that I am still not 100% comfortable in front of the camera.
